Opening up user registration

I just sent up a new version of Newsmap with a whole bunch of updates. The first thing you will immediately notice is that there's now an option to create a Newsmap account.

Although registration right now will only allow you to customize Newsmap esthetically, soon you will be able to add your own custom feeds so you can create your own, custom, map of the news.

Remember this is all super beta, and I expect it to be pretty fragile. If you find anything weird, things breaking, if you have problems or suggestions, please don't hesitate to drop me a line at feedback@newsmap.jp

I'm always listening ;)

Best,

- Marcos

Some of the changes in this update:

* User registration
* Fonts, colors, top page customization once you login.
* Auto update

plust a ton of bug fixes and performance improvements.

This is getting better all the time, Marcos. Thank you! I like the font and color choices, and I'm looking forward to being able to add my own sources. Still waiting for the IE/WIN fix when the site is loaded into a frameset :)

Is the data autorefreshed? I can't tell how old the page is. There is a clock being constantly updated, but I am not confident that the headlines are updated once a second. I tried leaving the page up for a long time and looked again, but if there were differences I couldn't spot them.

Agree. It doesn't seem to be updating as well as it used to. Most entries are 5 days old (UK - World News). Thanks

Just discovered newsmap : wow, really great idea, really well implemented, in terms of ui.
Will use for a couple of days, and wil be back for any features/observations I could come up with... But for now, the only thing I had to say was : "Wow!"

Are you going to make any options available for changing the layout?

Current / Hot / New stories are buried in the bottom left until they make the mainstream.

Would be beneficial to scale other ways. More granularity in the time.

Current / Hot / New stories make it to the top of the list in Google News...that is likely automated in some way to call better attention.
